Hotel Keys - first ppst

Hi all:
New member and first post.
Just started playing with my new Flipper One. So much fun.

I’m curious if anyone has tried to clone a hotel room key card? I was traveling for work and brought my Flipper to play with during downtime. I thought I’d try to clone my hotel key card. First thought it would be RFID but turned out the NFC reader could read the card. But it could not emulate the card for function.

I am not well versed in how hotel key encryption works, etc so I suspect there is some type of key exchange that occurs.

Any advice/thoughts?

Hi! First of all, the Flipper one is not yet released, I think you’re talking about the Fipper zero :slight_smile:

Most hotel keys are Mifare Classic cards, flipper can read them and even try to brute-force the encryption keys, but emulation is not finished yet, only the UID can be emulated, not the data on the card

Lol. Yeah, Flipper Zero. Was thinking first post and I guess I advanced the version to quickly. :wink:

Thanks for info. I saw that card type when it read it. Such a cool fun device. Lots of learning to do.
