Contact Pins

How far have the contact pins been designed to protrude for spring loading contact? I have noticed that the middle “common” pin appears to be recessed almost flush on my unit.

This is mine.

The middle pin is like that by design, there’s nothing wrong with your unit. That pin is supposed to connect to the side of the reader/key, to there’s no need for it to protrude (as it would only make it easier to break off)

Have an issue with middle pin: it does not reach the edge of the reader, because the case reaches the edge earlier and the spring does not squeeze out the pin enough

Sorry to revive an old thread, but you can use the GPIO pins on the top. Refer to the documentation for details all you have to do is plug a wire into GPIO pin 17 for the middle of the reader, and a second wire into GPIO pin 8 for the edge.
