For the iButton reader (and probably the NFC, LFRrfid, maybe IR) it would be helpful to have it compare a read key to the known keys.

Agreed, but I can conceive of use cases where you want to scan something even if it is a duplicate. Perhaps the comparison should come only if the user goes to save the tag, before being prompted to name the dump.
